Tipiesse was established in 1980 and soon became a national benchmark in the field of sports facilities and resins for sports, recreational and leisure flooring.

Over the years it has developed expertise in the construction of turnkey sports facilities, up to large sports facilities such as sports halls and municipal swimming pools: all this thanks to the Tipiesse team’s great experience in the highly specialised field of quality sports construction. The most advanced quality and technology are the basis of all Tipiesse realisations.

At the headquarters in Villa d’Adda (Bergamo), in addition to the administrative, technical and sales offices, there is the research and development laboratory and the testing area. Both work together to prepare new technical solutions with optimum results in terms of aesthetics, maintenance and durability.

Tipiesse was also the first company in the sports sector to undertake the construction of turnkey public sports facilities through the institution of Public Leasing, the most modern Public-Private Partnership formula that allows public bodies to offer financially demanding sports facilities to citizens.

Forty-five years with Tipiesse: outstanding sports facilities

After 45 years of history, Tipiesse is increasingly present at the most significant construction sites for sports facilities.

Among the most recent major projects is the redevelopment of the San Nicola stadium in Bari, the iconic structure designed by Renzo Piano for Italia ‘90, which has returned to full functionality thanks to the work of Tipiesse, which replaced the 26 “petals” that covered the stands and characterised its image. This was not an easy operation, which required the installation of pre-assembled aluminium profiles on stainless steel collars, followed gradually by the installation of the sheets with the help of a special site crane. Finally, the work teams took care of tensioning the sheets and welding the flaps.

Moreover, the work on large stadiums had an important precedent at the 2019 Universiade, when Tipiesse intervened with the complete renovation of the athletics track at the San Paolo stadium in Naples, now the Maradona Stadium, and at the same time – in ATI with other companies – with the replacement of the seats and waterproofing of the bleachers: the result was the spectacular image of a stadium entirely surrounded by blue.

Athletics tracks are still one of the qualifying areas of Tipiesse’s activities: many works were completed in 2024 or are still in progress. Of particular importance is the total renovation of the Pozzo-La Marmora stadium in Biella, a first phase of which was completed last November with the opening of the new track. The project, which began in 2021, aims to renovate all the facilities, from the changing rooms to the lighting system, in order to transform the entire facility into a new state-of-the-art sports centre. In the months that followed, the work continued with the renovation of the changing rooms, the grandstand and the lighting system, with the aim of making the facility safer, more efficient and user-friendly for everyone, athletes and spectators alike.

Tipiesse’s presence in the construction of sports halls and swimming facilities is constant, often as part of public-private partnership programmes.

For example, the sports hall in Orio al Serio (Bergamo), a structure that, in its apparent simplicity, is actually very articulated, exploiting the volume on different levels. The playing surface, of 765 square metres, is located at a height of approximately 1.50 m above the entrance level; above the atrium is a meeting room for 40 people, with large windows overlooking the pitch. Below the playing level, on the other hand, there is a 250 m2 multi-purpose gymnasium, suitable for any sporting activity that does not require the use of the ball. Located on different levels are 8 changing rooms and 300 square metres of storage space.

Previously, as part of a leasing partnership, the arena in Carugate (Milan) was built. The complex is designed with a main body to which is added the services and changing rooms and the ticket booth for the public away from the entrance. The rectangular outline of the main body is characterised by the sinuosity of the roofing system characterised by a glulam support structure and by undulations in both directions on the horizontal with the geometry of a hyperbolic paraboloid. Aesthetic and functional attention with the objective of a high architectural and performance result are the fundamental elements that motivated the design choices as well as the energy performance.

It is also as part of a public-private partnership that Tipiesse realised the redevelopment of the sports centre in Ospitaletto (Brescia), the latest stage of which is the new municipal swimming pool. The new volume of the swimming pool building is divided into two distinct areas, the first including the activity spaces (pools) with a greater height and oriented to the south, and a second of lower height oriented to the northwest containing the entrance and service areas. The area for activity spaces has been dimensioned to offer the widest possible range of services in a facility of this type, with a 25-metre pool with 6 lanes, and a 12.5-metre multi-purpose pool that can be used for water courses and rehabilitation.

We cannot forget to mention, among the sports types, an important multi-sport centre including padel, five-a-side football and beach volleyball, the Mariano Sports Arena in Mariano Comense (Como), for which Tipiesse built the main facilities.

Finally, it is interesting to remember that Tipiesse intervenes in many other construction sectors: for example, last year’s work included the restoration of the wooden roof of a historical building in the core of the Brescia Castle, the ‘Great Mile’, which is part of the museum system hosted by the Castle. The operations involved the replacement of the wooden trusses with special construction measures.

In conclusion, the 45 years of history that Tipiesse is celebrating today represent a significant milestone in the development of our sports facilities marked by the utmost experience and professionalism.
